HTTP/2 and HTTP/3: Faster Web
Most developers take HTTP for granted. But recent versions have changed everything.
HTTP/1.1
Sequential. You send a request, you wait. 6 connections per domain max. This led to “domain sharding” hacks.
HTTP/2
Multiplexing. Send multiple requests over a single TCP connection.
- Result: No more domain sharding. Bundling CSS is less critical.
HTTP/3 (QUIC)
Runs on UDP, not TCP.
- Problem solved: TCP Head-of-Line Blocking (one lost packet slowing down everything).
- Result: Faster on unreliable networks (mobile).
Conclusion
Ensure your server (Nginx, Cloudflare) has HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 enabled. It’s free speed.
