NPM vs Yarn vs PNPM vs Bun: Which One Should You Choose?

The JavaScript ecosystem is famous (or infamous) for its fast pace of change. This is especially true for package managers. Let’s compare the big four.

1. NPM (Node Package Manager)

The default. If you install Node.js, you have npm. It has massive community support and a huge registry.

• Pros: Comes with Node, huge ecosystem, standard.
• Cons: Can be slow, large node_modules size.

2. Yarn (v1 & Berry)

Created by Facebook to solve npm’s slowness and security issues back in the day. Yarn introduced the lockfile (yarn.lock).

• Cons: Still relatively new, might have edge-case bugs compared to mature tools.
